Amy's Immersion Evidence of learning

On Tuesday the 27th we moved on from Nicole's immersion to Amy's. In Amy's immersion we are learning about physical energy and the swinging pendulum. We had to make our own Swinging pendulum and calculate the mass of our weight and choose a height between 15 - 40cm and convert it to meters. The next thing we had to do was calculate the potential energy/PE. After we do that we workout the theoretical velocity also known as VT. The last thing we got up to was doing the trials two of our members had to get a stopwatch and time how much seconds to get to one point to another.

Maths

For this block of maths we are doing multiplication and division. I am in the stage 8+ group. We are doing powers and a task called seventh heaven. We have to research the number 7 in different cultures, the number 7 in religious, the number 7 around the world and anything else we have learnt about the number 7. Next we had to work out what was 777^7. I did this by doing 777^3 then 777^4 and multiplied that together and got 170,980,716,079,866,232,953. After that we needed to do some practise  work on mathsbuddy . Our tasks were powers/exponents and a pre-test on multiplying and dividing decimals.

Project presentation Hovercraft

On Monday the 21st of August we presented our projects. My project was successful, however we had a problem. The frisbee that was supposed to be screwed to the bottom always popped off and we didn't know why, so we took it off. As we presented we did a contest, whoever can guess how long it takes to fill the skirt with air wins. We timed it and it took 2.50 seconds. Before we presented we made a imovie  with all our pictures videos and timelapse . Before we showed how the hovercraft works we presented our science board. Overall I think our project was successful.
